Positive thought spurs Duncan By Alistair McMurran Dunedin Olympian Jonathon Duncan spends an hour each day developing a positive metal approach. It has transformed his swimming. He has worked with motivator Rakesh Pandey for the last 12 months and it has paid dividends. Duncan (18) has always had the physical attributes and strength to become an international swimmer, but Pandey has taught him to give direction to his powers. Duncan started the season as a "long shot" for the New Zealand Olympic team with his best 400m freestyle time of 4min 03sec. But he reduced this by a remarkable eight seconds when he qualified for the Sydney Olympics with a time of 3min 55.74sec at the Australian age group championships at Perth in April. At the New Zealand championships at Auckland in March, he won four men's open freestyle titles - 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m - and narrowly missed the games qualifying standard in the 400m. |
